Hicks History

The name Pullen came from a plantation owner name Moses Pullen, a white slave owner.  He and wife had no children.  Moses had a large plantation with lots of slaves; the slaves of Moses were  given the name PULLEN. Moses Pullen had a nephew name James Hicks. Because Moses had no children; after his death James was left the executive of the plantation and everything Moses owned.

Jasper Hicks was the father of Angeline Hicks, our direct ancestor.  Mattie, Ada, Nancy, Lizzie, Jennie, Babe, James, and Red were her other sisters and brother.  Angeline Hicks (born December 1866) married Frank Pullen (born Sept 1866, one of the slaves of Moses Pullen.  Frank had brothers and sister name Linnie, Lulann, Mollie, Rose, Early, and Gus Green.  (Early and Gus were bought by another slave owner with the last name Green).

Frank  and Angeline Pullen had nine children, Arthur, Evan, Edmon, Cora, Annie Lee, Minnie Dee, Bertha, Mertha, Dillard, and a son out of wedlock named James (Skin).

There are many unanswered questions about the Pullens-Hicks family, some we don’t want to talk about, some we may think are embarrassing, some we are unsure of, something we just don’t know.  What we don’t know and what to know, we must ask questions for answers and as time goes on we need to share and add to the history.  The information is not complete.  Thank you to those who took the time to help with the history.   If you would like to add or correct anything please write it down.  It will be a help to the family.
